Cutting Out High Fructose Corn Syrup

If you want to change your diet and start reviving your intestinal health a monumental first step is to choose to avoid high fructose corn syrup. Making the choice to avoid high fructose corn syrup (and the subsequent foods that it is an ingredient in) will immediately set you on track to making improvements in your overall health.
In theory avoiding high fructose corn syrup should be relatively easy. After all you only have to avoid one ingredient! In reality, however, it is much more difficult that it first sounds. High fructose corn syrup, which is bascially another word for sugar, is now a basic ingredient in almost everything we eat. In addition to all candies, doughnuts, pastries, ice creams, and deserts being filled with the ingredient, high fructose corn syrup is now exceedingly prevalent in even the most common “healthy” foods. High fructose corn syrup is now in most cereals, yogurts, canned fruit, breads (including whole wheat breads), jams, peanut butters, ketchups, teriyaki sauces, all prepackage meals such as lasagna, and most beverages as well.
The obesity rate around the world is rising at an incredible rate, and some nutritionists are blaming this largely on the prevalence of high fructose corn syrup in our diets. I don’t question this conclusion for one second. I had a friend who wanted to loose some weight. She didn’t change anything about her lifestyle besides ceasing to consume high fructose corn syrup, and she lost 30 pounds! This is an incredible testament to the negative effects high fructose corn syrup has on our health. However, to say that she lost all this weight only because she did not eat high fructose corn syrup would be somewhat of an incomplete explanation. That’s because if you commit to completely avoiding high fructose corn syrup this will also lead you to an incredibly healthy diet.
If you do not consume any foods with high fructose corn syrup in them then inevitably the majority of your caloric intake will be received from consuming raw, natural foods. By cutting out high fructose corn syrup you won’t be drinking carbonated beverages, you won’t be eating processed, frozen, and packaged foods, you won’t be eating ice creams, cakes, or other deserts, and you won’t be eating most breads. Once these are gone the majority of your menu choices will be made of dairy, fruits, vegetables, and meats. By themselves these foods comprise a great diet! Despite the thousands of books written proposing new and complicated calorie-counting, carbohydrate-avoiding diets, the healthiest of diets is not much more complex than simply eating natural foods such as these.
Getting your health back and winning your battle against intestinal disorders starts by making a decision to change what you eat. A great first step is cutting high fructose corn syrup completely out of your diet. Whether you have a severe intestinal disorder that you are trying to conquer, or whether you just want to loose a few pounds, I am convinced that by cutting this ingredient out of your diet you will immediately begin to see improvements in your overall health.
